DAY 1: Ride On!
We had 133 bikes at school today, which is 38% of all students @ LVE riding to school. This does not include all the scooters, walkers and the huge amount of parents on bikes! The sun stayed out for us too. A great start to the week!
Special thanks today to:
- Free Yumm, for their fabulous allergen-free Granola Bars
- Hippie Foods for the delicious healthy breakfast of granola, yogurt, blueberries and power-the-climb coffee
- Lynn Valley Bikes, for cheerfully helping the kids whose bikes needed tune-ups
- Rocky Mountain Bikes, for the great stickers
DAY 2: 104 Bikers despite thunder, lightning and rain! Oh my!
Kids lined up bright and early to have first crack at the Spin Wheel. There were some fabulous prizes to be had, courtesy of Rocky Mountain Bikes, Giant Bikes, and Ryders Eyewear, Playland, Booster Juice including technical bike shirts, socks, front and rear lights, water bottles, sunglasses, stickers and more!
Rain, rain go away
Come back another day
See you on your bikes one day! (ok, we would really like to see you on your bikes tomorrow, but the rhyme just didn’t work out!)
DAY 3: It’s raining newts!
We had 117 bikes arrive at school yesterday morning and 134 today! Great job Lynn Valley! It takes more than a little rain to stop our bikers 🙂
Yesterday was a fun morning with more Free Yumm granola bars, bike trivia, and Cliff bars, followed by today’s Spin Wheel with more amazing prizes – hopes were high to win the coveted Giant bike lights, Rocky Mountain jerseys and Ryders sunglasses! Lynn Valley Bikes also returned to do free bike and helmet safety checks. Thank you sponsors – your support is very much appreciated!
The evening family ride in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve was wet but a lot of fun – especially when a little Newt was found on the trail!
Thank you to everyone who submitted their pledge forms. All funds will go to the PAC to be put back into student programming. The Grand Prize draw will be held on Friday morning at 9am. Everyone is eager to see who will win the Giant mountain bike!
DAY 4: That’s a wrap!
It was another rainy morning on Friday but we still had 134 bikes arrive at the school. Thanks again to everyone who biked, scootered and walked to school this week. Way to go Lynn Valley!
It was a busy morning for our Bike To School Student Club as they ran their first bake sale and obstacle course. There was some fun competition on the obstacle courses with congratulations to Connor (intermediate) and Claire (primary) for having the best times on the course! Thanks also to Mr. Whitworth for agreeing to be the target for the water bottle spray station! The club raised $261.80 from the bake sale that will go towards PAC student programming. All in all it was a fun way to wrap up an exciting week.
We would like to take a minute to thank all of our incredibly generous sponsors, who donated bikes, food, prizes and time to make this week so spectacular for our children. Ian from Hippie Foods and Sarah from Free Yumm are both parents at our school. We also want to thank Lynn Valley Bikes, Rocky Mountain Bikes, Giant Bikes, Playland, the North Van Recreation Commission, Ryders Eyewear, Booster Juice, , Dairy Queen and HUB for their support.
We would also like to say a big THANK-YOU all our amazing volunteers who came out morning and evening to support BTSW. We are lucky to have so many committed parents in Lynn Valley.
- A primary boy won the bike (we don’t attach names to kids’ photos, so if you’re curious, ask your children)
- Sal won the Parent Prize Hippie Foods Basket
- Mrs. Blair’s Kindergarten class won the Pizza Party for raising the most pledge money
- Best week-long class participation went to:
- Intermediate: Grade 4: Mrs. Tallman/Baronit’s class had 62% of kids bike & 89% actively travel
- Primary: Grade 3/4 Mrs. Schechter’s class had 55% kids bike and 88% actively travel
$1330 was raised overall through BTSW pledges!
We hope everyone enjoyed BTSW as much as we did! We are always looking for new people to get involved with BTSW so if you are interested, please contact us via email@example.com.
