BTSW 2014 started this morning with over 135 kids riding their bikes to school today!

Children and parents who arrived early were treated to a gnarly energy snack provided by Nourish Market, Hippie Foods and FreeYumm. There was coffee, juice, fresh fruit, granola and yogurt for all hungry riders.

Bikes were checked over and given a brief tune-up by the fine fellows at Lynn Valley Bikes.

A surprise visit was also made by the RCMP Safety Bear, accompanied by Cst. Rockhill. The RCMP were impressed with LVE students awareness of bicycle safety.

Bike to School Week Organizers Tania Newman and Barb Towns together with Lynn Valley’s wonderful community sponsors

_MG_0116Morning meet up rides were arranged in various neighbourhoods around Lynn Valley. The bike to school was made all that safer through speed enforcement checks along Mountain Highway by the community policing volunteers.

To build on the morning momentum, Cycling BC was on hand all day to run the primary divisions through cycling skills such as accelerating, braking, weaving and avoiding obstacles.
