BTSW 2014 started this morning with over 135 kids riding their bikes to school today!
Children and parents who arrived early were treated to a gnarly energy snack provided by Nourish Market, Hippie Foods and FreeYumm. There was coffee, juice, fresh fruit, granola and yogurt for all hungry riders.
Bikes were checked over and given a brief tune-up by the fine fellows at Lynn Valley Bikes.
A surprise visit was also made by the RCMP Safety Bear, accompanied by Cst. Rockhill. The RCMP were impressed with LVE students awareness of bicycle safety.
Morning meet up rides were arranged in various neighbourhoods around Lynn Valley. The bike to school was made all that safer through speed enforcement checks along Mountain Highway by the community policing volunteers.
To build on the morning momentum, Cycling BC was on hand all day to run the primary divisions through cycling skills such as accelerating, braking, weaving and avoiding obstacles.
And there is more to come -> Join in the fun on Wednesday!
BTSW Events for Wed May 21
Want to learn how to Change a Flat Tire? (8:25 am)
Children & parents invited to a quick tutorial from Lynn Valley Bikes on how to change a flat tire. Look for the Lynn Valley Bikes tent tomorrow at 8:25 am on the gravel field.
Cycling BC will be running Advanced Cycling skills courses for Divisions 1-6 throughout the school day. Please bring your waivers, bikes & helmets to school.
Family Ride (6 pm)
Plan to come out at 6pm for a Family Meet up Ride in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve. Children accompanied by an adult can meet at the gazebo near the Rice Lake gates in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve at 6pm. A great way to meet other families who enjoy riding and to explore our natural surrounds. Ride will be on the paved pathway.
