Ryan Leech came to Lynn Valley’s Assembly on Thursday, May 16th. He wowed the students with his amazing stunts and also conveyed some excellent messages about making smart choices, positive thinking, listening to yourself, healthy lifestyle habits, and perseverance.
His Trials of Life presentation is a great demonstration of PAC money at work. The administration uses PAC money to have speakers like Ryan come in to motivate the students. And it worked! The children were buzzing with excitement following the assembly and can’t wait to get on their bikes for Bike to School Week! (Thanks Ryan!)
- To the delight of the students, Ryan jumps over Principal Wanner and Vice-Principal McVey.
- Ryan talks about how to keep your body fit and healthy through nutritious eating and exercise.
- He emphasizes that kids should drink water – not pop or energy drinks.
- Eating healthy is a habit you can develop. At first, it may seem strange to eat different, healthier food. But keep doing it and you will learn that your body performs better the healthier you eat.
- He tells how he developed his concentration skills – to block out the noise around him and focus on what he was doing.
- He speaks about the value of constructive self-criticism. Sometime people are too critical on themselves. You need to figure out how to turn the criticism into an action plan.
- Focus on the positive – what I could have done better – instead of on beating yourself up about what you did wrong.
- He advises that students try many different sports and academic pursuits to find their true calling.
- He speaks of when he first started out – that he wasn’t very good at biking.
- But it was his passion, and he worked hard to get better.
- He fell – a lot at first. Sometimes, they were very serious falls. But every time he fell, he would get back on.
- And do the stunt again, and again until it became second nature.
- Everyone fails. The trick is to get back on the bike and not let the failure get you down.
- Ryan demonstrates how falling from a bike is a skill that needs to be mastered.
- Ask your children what they learned from his presentation!
Here is a video that shows Ryan’s style of riding. Enjoy -> share -> marvel!
